All teachers need to be digitally literate and open to using a wide range of modalities (digital, AI, traditional) in their teaching. KOBILS is a small school with typically 12-16 children in each grade/year level. We opened in 2008 with an international kindergarten and after school and Saturday program. In 2017 we opened our elementary school for children aged 6-12, and began the year with a grade 1/2 class. Our first class graduated in March 2023 after six years with us. KOBILS has a strong school culture and holds the belief that children learn best in learning centered lessons with the teacher as guide. As a bilingual school, children additionally study Japanese every day and have curriculum review in Japanese, as well as social studies. All children must be competent English speakers to join the school. We are growing each year so there are plenty of projects for enthusiastic teachers who are looking to make a real contribution to our friendly, motivated school. At KOBILS we encourage children to develop independence and become self-sufficient, so we have a unique life skills program that includes personal finance and DIY projects such as restoring old furniture for use in the classroom, painting, ironing, cooking, farming and sewing. We have a strong outdoor class program. We have a good relationship with the senior citizens center next door to our school and visit at least once a week and additionally work on projects together, read to each other and celebrate cultural festivals. Teacher paperwork is kept to a minimum; reporting consists of shorter progress postcards each term and a longer end of year report. The Work Day Students are on-site from 8:30-3:30 on Monday and Friday, and 8:30-4:30 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. School finishes at 15:30 daily with optional one hour of club activities from Tuesday to Thursday.
