The role of the Sustaining Engineering Manager is critical for overseeing a team dedicated to improving open source software by resolving defects reported by customers. This position involves managing a distributed team of engineers, mentoring them, and ensuring their growth, all while enhancing collaboration and technical delivery within the organization. Key Responsibilities: - Manage and lead a distributed team of engineers. - Measure and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) and training initiatives. - Deliver bug fixes and patches in areas like Ubuntu, OpenStack, Ceph, Kubernetes, Juju & MAAS. - Influence company culture and uphold Canonical values in team interactions. - Collaborate with other teams and prepare for occasional global travel (up to 10%). Qualifications Required: - Professional software delivery experience in C, C++, Go, Python or similar languages. - Knowledge and passion for software development. - Proven leadership ability in organizing and prioritizing complex problem resolutions. - Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., git) and debugging tools (e.g., gdb). - Strong commitment to maintainable code quality and testing practices. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. - Experience with Linux (preferably Ubuntu) and open-source business models. - People management experience in a support organization is a plus.
